The Ghosts & Horses Occasional Update

Oh, hey. In case I haven't mentioned it before, you can sign up for a thing called "The Ghosts & Horses Occasional Update" by clicking here, or by using the widget to your right (No, your other right, dummy! j/k, lol).

It's a semi-regular rundown of the various things I've been up to that might get lost in the raging waters of the Twitter and Facebook streams, as well as updates about the activities of past Radio Hour guests.

Here's what it looks like: "Summah's Ovah!: The G&H End of Summer Update"

Radio Hour, Bonus Video: Rorschach & Leviticus LIVE at Patrick's Cabaret, April 2003

Years before I was a podcaster, I was a novelty musician in a novelty band with Joe Thoen called The Brian Bieber Experience.

Below is some rare footage of the Brian Bieber Experience tribute act, Tom Rorschach & Jeff Leviticus, performing live at Patrick's Cabaret in April 2003.
    Set list:
    1. "Growin' a Mustache"
    2. "Springtime Love"
    3. "Reverse Amputee"
    4. "Mr. Sandman"
Check out The Ghosts & Horses Radio Hour, Episode 5: "Arrogance, Denial or Brilliant Intuition" with Patrick Scully to learn about the man responsible for creating a venue that allows this kind of thing to go on.

I Have Some Pretty Talented Friends

I mean, I don't like to brag, but over the years I've somehow managed to surround myself with some pretty extraordinary people.

Case in point: My old friend Dessa (featured on Radio Hour episodes One and Three, discussing rap business and doling out personal advice to me, respectively) just announced that her next album, Castor, The Twin, will be released on Oct 4, 2011.

Simply put, Dessa is the best. In addition to being an immensely talented musician and writer, she is just an all-around good egg.

Check out this track, "Palace," from the upcoming album, and then pay close attention to Doomtree.net and @dessadarling so you know exactly when you can pre-order this business.

I mean, come on. That's pretty great, right?

Radio Hour, Episode 5: “Arrogance, Denial, or Brilliant Intuition” with Patrick Scully

On June 11, 2011, the Minneapolis performance venue and arts organization, Patrick’s Cabaret, celebrated its 25th anniversary. In this episode, Patrick’s Cabaret founder Patrick Scully joins me to discuss the origin of the Cabaret, making art with a Marxist sensibility, living with HIV, and nearly getting run out of town during a gay community dance in Wolverton, MN in 1981.

Radio Hour, Ep 5 preview: Patrick Scully

Recently I was fortunate enough to spend an afternoon talking with Minneapolis-based performance artist Patrick Scully for the upcoming fifth episode of The Ghosts & Horses Radio Hour.

While I continue to edit the episode, I'd like to share with you this remarkable moment from our conversation. This is Patrick talking about being diagnosed as HIV-positive in 1985:

You can listen to the rest of my conversation with Patrick when Episode 5 is released next week.
